I’m a graduate of the Guitar Institute of Technology at Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California. That experience helped shape the musician I am today — and the way I help other players find their own voice.

My career has taken me onto international stages, playing with major artists and into major recording sessions in Los Angeles. I’ve played countless festivals, enjoyed success with original bands and run my own record label. From the energy of a festival crowd to the focus of a recording session, I’ve experienced music from both sides of the studio glass.

Writing, performing, recording and releasing music have all been part of the journey. Those experiences taught me that great playing is about more than getting the notes right: it’s about feel, listening, confidence and knowing how to serve a song.

I’ve been playing for around 29 years and teaching for over 23. I’m a Musicians’ Union member and remain a working musician with wedding and function band Cousin Matthew. Music is something I live, as well as something I teach.

Back home in Teesside, I’ve taught in schools and privately, and organised student band nights to give players that first taste of making music together in front of an audience.

At Six String Studio, you get the benefit of that experience in a relaxed, personal setting. Whether it’s your first chord or your next big step, I’ll meet you where you are and help you move forward.

Your music is our starting point.

I want lessons to feel relevant. We’ll use music you enjoy to build solid foundations: technique, timing, listening and the confidence to play with other people.

You don’t need to become a copy of another player. My job is to help you become the best version of you.

More than six strings

I teach acoustic and electric guitar, bass, ukulele and drums. I also play cello and piano, although I don’t offer lessons in those instruments.

Music beyond the lesson.

Alongside private tuition, I’ve run the adult Guitar Workshop. The group is currently closed; you’re welcome to ask about future opportunities.
